Persepholis by Marjane Satrapi

Persepholis provides an overview of the Islamic revolution from the perspective of a ten year old girl. Her story tells on how she used to live without many worries, she was carefree. Eventually she went to school where she can no longer be with her friends, and is forced to wear a uniform. As part of the requirement she has to wear a veil. The veil is an extension of the culture she lives in. The girls mother was nearly convicted for protesting and speaking her mind. Stuck between staying in the norm or speaking her opinion, the girl decides to take her parents side and protest as well.
