American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

American Born Chinese is a story about a Taiwanese student who lives in America. The student named, Jin has a crush on an American girl named Amelia Harris. Jin is very shy and quiet so despite the many chances to talk to Amelia, his fear holds him back. In hopes of standing out and being noticed by Amelia, Jin changes his hair style so that he fits in with the other American boys he goes to school with. There appears to be some jealousy over Greg, Amelia's lab partner. Jin conformed to society norm and changed his appearance so that he would fit in. In the end, Jin gets a new found courage to ask Amelia on a date. She says yes and Jin is on cloud nine.
