"The Road Warrior" The OC- What is a voice over?

The popular television show, "The OC", gives insight into the uses of the film making tool, the voice over. The shows characters; Summer and Marrissa, tell how a voice over can create an emphasis or emotional feeling to a film. The voice over is what it sounds like. When used in a movie the characters are not actually speaking through the voice over, but rather the voice over can tell the viewer what is being thought by the character or used as a way of giving insight into the situation or history of the story being presented. The words are not spoken in live action by the actors.
